On 22 September UWC Dilijan hosted the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia with a concert programme dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenian Independence. The concert was opened by a vibrant introduction by the Artistic Director and Principle Conductor of the orchestra Vahan Mardirossian. He highlighted the significance of independence for Armenia, as the country has been devoid from sovereignty and oppressed under foreign yoke for centuries.
The programme included works by renowned Armenian composers Aram Khachaturyan, Eduard Mirzoyan, and the founding father of Armenian national music; Komitas. Vahan Mardirossian illustrated each piece with a brief foreword about the author and the work itself. Co-founder of UWC Dilijan Veronika Zonabend thanked the orchestra for the amazing evening and expressed hope that Dilijan will rise again as a city of arts, culture and education, the way it used to be just a century ago.
