Students are chosen for nomination to UWC Dilijan by National Committees in their home countries. The selection process does not take the ability of families to pay the fees into account. Once a student has been selected, families are asked to complete an assessment of their ability to pay. If they cannot pay the full fee – and most families cannot – they are then considered for a scholarship to meet the rest of the fees they cannot pay.
This policy is to try to meet “all demonstrated need” through a means-tested process. In other words, the families of selected students must demonstrate (show, prove) that they need help with fees. Wherever possible, UWC Dilijan will then find scholarship funds to meet the fees a family is unable to pay.
Applicants should not therefore be put off by the full fee for the college since most students pay only a small fraction of this amount or nothing at all. Candidates should concentrate on getting an admission offer in the first instance. The families of successful candidates are asked for information about family finances which will determine the required level of scholarships, but we aim to make it possible for any student who is successful in the admissions process to attend the college.
